Play Rights

Did you know that your school is required to pay the playwright in order to perform a published play at the RAPS Festival? Every published play has a registered author (or authors), and a fee is payable in order for you to be able to stage the production. The good news is that this can be easily done - all you need to do is contact the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO) (Tel: 011-712-8000/8321) to check how to do this. Visit www.dalro.co.za to learn more about this.

Here at RAPS, we need to be sure you're obeying Copyright Law, and so we need to see evidence that you have indeed paid DALRO for the rights to perform your particular play. Please make sure you do this!

DALRO fees don't apply if you have written the play yourself - although of course we would encourage you to go and register your creative work with DALRO too! You've written a play after all.
